Fine and funky

The Fish Market is a Reykjavík landmark of fine dining. After eight years of service it is in fact well on its way to become a classic. Situated smack downtown across the street from where the first settlers in Iceland dug their well around 1100 years ago and around the corner from the seasonal demonstrations against the government.
The Menu is a nice cross section of delicacies from on and off the shores of Iceland. Mussels, langoustines, squid and scallops plus fresh fish served in a flurry of tastes and colours. Also their take on lamb, puffin and minke whale is slightly out of the ordinary but a great success nevertheless. Their tasting menu is a beauty with original presentations and mouth-watering twists on familiar and unfamiliar ingredients. International influences mingle seamlessly with the local ingredients and often create the new and surprising in the best possible way. And for any sucker for flamboyant presentation such as this one the mussels served on dry ice and fresh seaweed are surely something to behold. No fine dining tour of Reykjavík would be complete without a meal here.
