Eat and be enchanted
Aldan Restaurant – www.hotelaldan.is
This town is known for its vintage houses and laid back atmosphere. Creative people come from all over the world to spend time in this area. An art school was recently established here as a product of an art festival held every summer in july. Coming down the mountain among the waterfalls seeing the high peaks and steep hills rolling into the long fiord stretching in the midnight sun or flickering with the aurora borealis you will know you´re in a special place. And there is fine dining! Hótel Aldan is an original great idea. In order to give purpose to some of the old vintage houses a hotel and restaurant was started. From day one there was an ambition to create something different. The menu is simple but classy and they have a history of hiring talented chefs. The decour is a tasteful if not trendy in a slightly hipster vieux style. For lunch the goat cheese salad is a must. For dinner their lamb is good and remember that the fish-of-the-day is from one of the local fishermen.

When I came here for the first time I remember thinking somebody not only got the right idea but had the guts and determination to follow it through. Remember this is a comunity of around 700 souls and despite the ferry from Denmark it is always going to be a tough gig running a restaurant and a hotel in a town this size. But they did it, as far as I can tell, with good taste and hard work.
