Of monsters and mouthfuls

Egilsstaðir Guesthouse – www.lakehotel.is

On the crossroads between the east and the north of Iceland lies a fine place to stay. Do not be fooled by the term guesthouse this is a real hotel. Simple and slightly eccentric decour, large rooms, none with less than a great view, pick the riverside or the mountain range, both are equally spectacular. The kitchen offers a variety of local delicacies, serving ambitious breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their focus is on local produce and the chefs have been doing a good job of keeping it interesting. Fresh home made bread and local cheese, local lamb and depending on the season, reindeer and wild geese. A place easy to recommend for their food, service and accomodation. This is also a prime location to spot the legendary monster in the lake.

In Egilsstaðir, this is where I would spend the night.
